BEGA Books Beautiful New Project
The new Main Library in Salt Lake City visually symbolizes the concept that a library is much more than a building filled with books. When Moshe Safdie and Associates conceptualized the library’s design, they wanted to inspire the imagination and aspirations of the people and community served.
Salt Lake City’s new main library has now doubled its previous space with 240,000 square feet housing more than 500,000 books and other materials. The six-story building embraces a public plaza, with shops and services at ground level, reading galleries above, and a 300-seat auditorium. A multi-level reading area at the southern facade of the building provides a view onto the plaza with stunning vistas of the city and Wasatch Mountains beyond. The roof-top garden, accessible by walking the crescent wall or by elevator, offers a 360 degree view of the Salt Lake Valley.
Safdie’s vision included using BEGA 8200 MH pole top luminaries to ensure that the exterior lighting was every bit as appealing as the building’s design. BEGA lighting allows the plazas, water features, and gardens of this new library to convey the spirit of other great public spaces, by providing a place to meet friends, relax with a book, watch a concert, participate in a debate, or simply celebrate the city. |
