BEGA Lights the Way for Wisconsin Landmark
The Quadracci Pavilion at the Milwaukee Art Museum is the first Calatrava-designed building to be completed in the United States. Incorporating both cutting-edge technology and old-world craftsmanship, this amazing design by Santiago Calatrava gives the Milwaukee Art Museum an artistic identity not only reflecting the significance of their collections, but creating a world-class landmark. It’s no surprise that BEGA steplights abound, providing security and direction for the hundreds of thousands visiting this architectural phenomenon each year.
Signature elements of the Calatrava design include the Reiman Bridge, a 250-foot-long suspended pedestrian bridge linking downtown Milwaukee directly to the lakefront and the Museum. The bridge features a distinctive 200-foot angled mast with cables, reflecting Calatrava’s unique experience in bridge design throughout Europe.
The Burke Brise Soleil, which is the moveable, wing-like sunscreen comprised of 72 steel fins, rests on top of the glass-enclosed reception hall. Unprecedented in American architecture, this feature is the signature element of the Museum’s new 142,050-square-foot Quadracci Pavilion. |
