Santa Barbara County Courthouse
Santa Barbara, California
On December 13, 1994 BEGA lights provided dramatic new lighting to make the historic Santa Barbara County Courthouse as impressive at night as it is during the day.
Former BEGA President,Larry Routh, donated the design and installation of this new lighting system in order to showcase products produced in the Santa Barbara area. BEGA retained internationally acclaimed lighting designer Ross De Alessi to develop an artistic and community- accepted lighting plan. Over 140 lighting fixtures were strategically placed at the courthouse, virtually invisible during the day, while providing the breathtaking architectural display at night.
Now over tens years later, BEGA is once again involved with the refurbishing and re-aiming of the luminaires that light this magnificent façade. On May 26, 2005, The Santa Barbara County Courthouse joined the likes of the U.S. Capital Building, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Alamo, when Secretary of the Interior, Gale Norton announced its designation as a national historical landmark. The courthouse is considered the finest specimen of Spanish architecture in the United States.
Long Considered the crown jewel of Santa Barbara’s architectural splendors, BEGA is proud to have been involved in the 1994 relighting and recent refurbishing of this amazing landmark. |
